At my last doctor’s appointment, in March, my doctor gave me what is probably the best prescription ever: a prescription to not drink any soda. As you likely have gathered in the short time we’ve been together, soda–and specifically, Mountain Dew–is my Achilles’ heel when it comes to diet and health. I’ve not been complying with this prescription very well in the time since she gave it to me. But as of this evening, I’m a week in with nothing more than one Diet Mountain Dew Code Red on Tuesday to help head off the quitting-caffeine-habit headache. It’s far too soon to say I’m officially off the sodas–in the past 30 years I’ve probably only made it about three weeks at a time during my various “get healthy” efforts before succumbing. But it’s a start, and it’s one I intend to keep going.
